Women s Kayaking Workhops June 28 And 29 In Bozeman


Women interested in kayaking are invited to a one-day beginners’ class sponsored by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The two sessions, June 28 and 29, will be held at Hyalite Reservoir, south of Bozeman in the Gallatin National Forest, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. Kayaking is one of the fastest growing outdoor sports in the country.

Wolves Kill Guard Dog North of Helena
Wolves killed a guard dog on private land north of Helena. USDA Wildlife Services confirmed the incident on June 9. During an investigation of the incident, USDA Wildlife Services personnel saw two adult wolves in an area with two large mounds of dirt, indicating the possible presence of a den.

To protect Montana’s deer and elk from the impending threat of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks no longer accepts, holds, or rehabilitates deer and elk. FWP Region One Warden Captain Lee Anderson says that this policy is necessary because: CWD, a fatal neurological disease that affects deer and elk, is spreading in the United States and Canada.

FWP reminds those planning commercial activities on sites managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks that commercial-use permits are required. Examples of commercial uses include guided angling and whitewater rafting, guided walks and tours, guided trail rides, boat rentals, and commercial photography.

Smith River Management Plan Update
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials said today that a draft management for the Smith River State Park and River Corridor is underdevelopment and the public may have an opportunity to comment on the proposed plan as early as this fall. The draft plan will be based on the recommendations of a citizen advisory committee that is helping to update the existing management plan.
