Deer And Elk Harvest Picks Up In Northwest Montana


Deer and Elk harvest in northwest Montana picked up over the past weekend, according to results at Region One check stations. At the Swan check station, Wildlife Biologist John Vore reports that white-tailed deer harvest has caught up with last year s totals after a slow first two weeks.

Kokanee Spawning Egg-Take Completed For The Year
The FWP-operated Flathead Lake Salmon Hatchery has wrapped up spawning operations for 2008. Kokanee salmon, a landlocked version of Pacific sockeye salmon, typically spawn October through November in Western Montana. FWP utilizes Lake Mary Ronan adult kokanee primarily for its egg needs.

Hysham Check Station Results for November 9, 2008
Hunters continue to pursue their favorite passion this fall. Hysham check station results on Sunday, November 9, 2008 showed hunter success has improved. Weather conditions were favorable and assisted with an increased harvest for southeastern Montana hunters. Hunters (132) took 24 antelope, 82 Mule Deer, 33 White-tail Deer, 16 Turkeys and 6 upland game birds.

Warm weather persists along with hunter success
BILLINGS Hunters experienced some more warm temperatures during the third weekend of Montana s 2008 general big game season. Although the number of hunters who stopped at Fish, Wildlife and Parks check stations in south central Montana was 43 percent higher last weekend than in 2007, only 39.6 percent were successful.
