Before you can legally operate a car or truck, you are required to pass a driving exam and obtain a drivers license. In Montana some motorboat operators are also required to take an exam and be certified. State law requires anyone 13 or 14 years of age who wants to operate a motorboat or personal watercraft over 10 horsepower, must take an exam and get a motorboat operator certificate.

FWP Seeking Comments on EA for Proposed Lake Helena Access Site
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is accepting comments on an environmental assessment for a proposal to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) and the Helena Valley Irrigation District to establish a fishing access site on Lake Helena .

boating class offered June 26 in Billings
BILLINGS Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will offer a boating education class on Thursday evening, June 26, at 6:30 p.m., at the FWP office in Billings, 2300 Lake Elmo Drive. The class will include an overview of boating safety, equipment requirements and the rules of safe operation. Participants must pre-register and read the boating manual prior to the class.

Kayaking is one of the fastest growing sports and understandably so. “Kayaks are lighter-weight and easier to load on vehicles than canoes, and paddling a solo kayak is even simpler than canoeing with a partner,” said Marc Goldsmith of Bozeman, a member of the Gallatin Valley Navy, an informal group of friends who enjoy flat-water paddling.
